Initial Brainstorm and CAD
Manufacturing
Over the course of a semester, I gained skills using a Prototrak mill and lathe both manually and CNC machnining.
The first part we machined was the mounting block. I learned how to square up stock, tap holes, and develop toolpaths in Mastercam.
Other parts included the piston, web, crankshaft bearing tube, displacer rod fork, heat sink, bedplate, base, and flywheel. The image to the right shows the crankshaft bearing tube being machined on the lathe.
I decided to customize my flywheel by adding pizza toppings. This process got me more comfortable with Mastercam. I also wanted to machine a brass mustache for my bedplate where I learned how to use tabbing.
